Carlos E. Arce-Lara, M.D. is a board-certified medical oncologist and hematologist at Alliance Cancer Care Arizona’s Casa Grande location.

Dr. Arce-Lara received his medical doctorate from Escuela Autónoma de Ciencias Medicas de Centroamérica in San Jose, Costa Rica. He completed his residency in internal medicine at Mercy Catholic Medical Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and his hematology/medical oncology fellowships at the University of Louisville James Graham Brown Cancer Center in Louisville, Kentucky, and The Ohio State University Arthur G. Like many other cancer healthcare providers, Dr. Arce-Lara was drawn to oncology through personal experience with a family member. It was clear to him that he had a calling to help patients and their families during very difficult times. He knows the importance of having a guide through diagnosis and treatments, and to be able to provide this kind of care and help is a privilege that he takes very seriously.

Dr. Arce-Lara has a special interest in multiple myeloma, a type of bone marrow cancer. Multiple myeloma is a cancer that has multiple different clinical presentations, can mimic other diseases, and has a vast number of treatments available. Its complexity and research advances make it a unique cancer to study and treat.

For Dr. Arce-Lara, the most rewarding part of his job is being the leader of a team that cares deeply about their cancer patients and their loved ones. Every patient is different and because of that, Dr. Arce-Lara and his team are able to help in many different ways.

Dr. Arce-Lara is a member of several professional societies including the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), the American Society of Hematology (ASH), the American Medical Association (AMA), and the Colegio de Médicos y Cirujanos de Costa Rica (CMCCR). He has been published in numerous industry journals and is fluent in Spanish and English.

In his spare time, Dr. Arce-Lara likes learning new things and has interests in astronomy and philosophy. He also enjoys playing tennis and going camping, but most of all, he loves spending quality time with his family.
